In a recent seven week research trip (fall 2005) to Pielgrzymka, Andrew Smith met with Father Roman Dubec and interpreter Halina Malecki and visited St. Michael's to record the restoration progress. Andy was very impressed with the Father Dubec's dedication to the preservation of our village church and nearby historical sites.
To date, St. Michael's metal roof has been repaired with replacement of some of the roof and structural supports. The electrical wiring in the church interior has been fully updated and the exterior shingling of the belfry completed. Donated funds were used for the restoration of a treasured seventeenth century Mother of God icon which was backed by an 11th century icon from an earlier iconastasis. Father Dubec expressed his great appreciation for the support which had come from America and described his plans for a belfry museum project displaying artifacts which had been found in the church. He is working with a November deadline in order to have governmental reimbursement for project costs.
