The overwhelming majority of Carpatho-Rusyns who emigrated to the United States came in a single twenty year period. Although it is difficult to determine exact numbers because of ethnic identification problems, Paul Robert Magocsi reports in The Carpatho-Rusyn Americans that "[b]y 1914, an estimated 150,000 Carpatho-Rusyns had come to America, and there was hardly a family in the homeland that did not have at least one member in the New World."

Three-quarters of these immigrants were young men who came with the intention of earning money and returning to the homeland with the ability to buy land. The advent of the first world war in 1914 would bring this immigration to a standstill. Immigration legislation in 1924 would establish quotas that would basically end any significant immigration from the Carpathian region.

We have to date found the immigration records of over five hundred emigrants from our village area. Our approach to the compilation of this data is described under "Methodology." All corrections and additions to this still-under-construction database are most welcome.
